It is the fourth consecutive year that Nike, in partnership with the NBA, evokes the pride of the cities of their respective franchises with peculiar elements of each represented in the uniforms of the teams. The intention is to make fans feel even more as being part of their favorite teams.
The franchises have adopted the use of stronger colors with an enhanced eye, having references from the past on the uniforms that will make their debut in the 2020-21 NBA season, starting on December 22nd.
Here are the models:
ATLANTA HAWKS
The Atlanta Hawks pays tribute to one of the city's most iconic and revolutionary residents, Martin Luther King Jr. The legacy of the late civil rights activist is eternalized in the city from the King Center to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Profits from the sale of the uniform will support several economic empowerment programs for black communities in Atlanta.
BROOKLYN NETS
O Brooklyn Nets continua suas homenagens as crias artísticas do Brooklyn. Na temporada 2019-20, o rapper The Notorious BIG foi homenageado com o tradicional esquema de cores de uma das marcas que mais usava, a australiana COOGI. Neste ano Jean-Michel Basquiat é quem recebe a homenagem.
BOSTON CELTICS
Os Celtics mantem o uniforme sóbrio e discreto, porém relembra o uniforme utilizado pela franquia no ano de 2008 por Ray Allen, Paul Pierce e Kevin Garnett.
CHARLOTTE HORNETS
Hornets is back with “Buzz City” stamped on the new uniform for the 2020-21 season. Golden elements can also be seen as a discreet tribute to the city's mint, the second largest banking center in the U.S.
CHICAGO BULLS
CHICAGO written in gold with a red outline, nods to the sign of one of the most popular attractions located in the heart of the city of Chicago, the Chicago Theater. The place is certainly the city's heritage, known for the shows and films shown there.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Birthplace of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the franchise launched a shirt that uses the logo fonts of eight famous bands and artists such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Nirvana. All this to form the word Cleveland in a different and creative way.
DALLAS MAVERICKS
With silver and gold accents that pay tribute to the 2011 NBA Championship season, the Dallas Mavericks pays homage to Pegasus, a figure in Greek mythology who 'protected' Dallas and was a symbol of growth and prosperity.
DENVER NUGGETS
The Denver Nuggets didn’t dare enough this year. The classic skyline design that symbolizes Colorado, is back again after being worn in the 2018-19 season.
DETROIT PISTONS
Pistons always innovate in their uniforms. It is the fourth year that the team has updated its collection called ‘Motor City’, a discreet tribute to the city that is one of the largest automotive production hubs in the United States.
GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
Inspired by the Warriors uniforms worn between 1997 and 2010, the franchise celebrates 47 seasons with the 'Oakland Forever' shirts, which are inspired by the 'We Believe' era, which included a sequence of playoffs in 2007. That year, the Warriors, won the Dallas Mavericks for the first time in a best-of-seven series in the playoffs.
HOUSTON ROCKETS
The Rockets decided to take inspiration from the colors of the traditional rockey team, Houston Oilers, just as Travis Scott did when he launched his Jordan V 'Cactus Jack' in partnership with Nike.
INDIANA PACERS
Back in one of its most iconic uniforms, Indiana Pacers rescues classic yellow chalk stripes along with navy blue. The franchise has not used this colorway since 2013.
LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS
The Los Angeles Clippers, which have a strong connection with the city's street culture, will keep the Mister Cartoon design worn last season, but with the primary color black instead of white. It’s worth mentioning that, Cartoon, one of the most talented graffiti artists in the world and renowned tattoo artist, participated in the process of updating the visual identity of the franchise.
LOS ANGELES LAKERS
The Los Angeles Lakers have prepared something very special for the new uniform that will be worn in the 2020-21 season. We are talking about the continuation of the ‘Lore’ series, which this year pays tribute to Elgin Baylor, one of the greatest owners of the franchise immortalized in the memory of fans with the classic blue and white uniform.
MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
The Memphis Grizzlies pays tribute to one of the big names in soul born in the city, the singer / songwriter, known for his Oscar-winning and Grammy-winning theme song, Isaac Hayes. The discreet black stripes on the shirt represent the grooves found on the vinyl records of Stax Records, the city's traditional record label and popular for the work that Isaac Hayes did on it.
MIAMI HEAT
Since 2017, the Miami Heat has been using more vibrant and degrade tones. Still following the line of recent years, the franchise presents a new color and again based on the color of the 80s, the so-called ‘Vice Violet’.
MILWAUKEE BUCKS
Inspired by the city's lakes, the uniform features three shades of blue that represent Lake Michigan, as well as the other three existing rivers.
MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
Like the rockey team, the Minnesota North Stars, the franchise highlights in its new black and green uniform the way Minnesota is popularly known: North Star State.
NEW ORLEANS PELICANS
The Pelicans bet on something more discreet and conservative, but valuing the colors of the New Orleans flag throughout the uniform.
NEW YORK KNICKS
For this season, the Knicks carry in their new uniform discreet details that reflect the essence of New York City. Ronnie Fieg, designer and CEO of the KITH brand, was responsible for combining the traditional blue and orange with the well-known New York phrase "City never sleeps". Despite having already been published on one of the designer's social media accounts, we still don't see it among or other uniforms seen on the NBA website.
OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
Everything points out that the Oklahoma City Thunder even wore the shirt of one of its sponsors, reproducing the colors of the gas station chain Loves.
ORLANDO MAGIC
The Orlando Magic brought back the nostalgia of the nineties with its original font and the traditional chalk stripes represented in orange, bringing a more youthful and cheerful look to the uniform.
PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
Like the 76ers, the Phoenix Suns bet on black and highlight the “The Valley”, homage to the metropolitan area of Phoenix composed of ‘Valley of The Sun’, Salt River Valley and Phoenix Metro.
PHOENIX SUNS

PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS
The Portland Trailblazers jersey pays homage to Oregon's scenic landscape and topography, as well as the tribal nations that existed throughout the region.
SACRAMENTO KINGS
The Sacramento Kings sought to rescue in their new uniform elements from other uniforms that the team has had throughout its history, more specifically the 1985 blue (baby blue road uniform), the 'Checker Alternate Uniform', the 'Black Road Uniform' of 2000 and the latest 'Sactown City Edition Uniform, worn last season.
SAN ANTONIO SPURS
The team brought back some of the franchise's history by using the traditional turquoise, fuchsia and orange. The colors became popular between late 1989 and his first championship in 1999 with David Robinson and company.
TORONTO RAPTORS
Continuing the ‘Welcome Toronto’, collab with OVO, Drake’s brand, the franchise decides to keep the details in black and gold for this new season.
UTAH JAZZ
The black color has been seen frequently in the uniforms that will be worn in this new season 2020-21. For many it is a question of style, for others, as it is the case for the Utah Jazz, black conveys a more serious and discreet aspect.
WASHINGTON WIZARDS
For this 2020-21 season, the Wizards don't seem to have been too concerned with putting something new and creative on the table. The team follows a very conservative mood.
Despite speculation, the New York Knicks hasn't realease yet anything official about its new city jersey edition for the 2020-21 season.
