It’s hard to imagine an organization that went through so many obstacles during this pandemic and was able to not only to manage it but also to come out of it stronger, better, and ready for future challenges like the NBA.
But hey, one may say, this is the mere opinion of those of us who love the orange ball, so STREETOPIA chose to prove otherwise by pointing out some facts.
• The largest contract ever for a center was signed this year at the Utah Jazz for Rudy Gobert;
• As this edition is about to be published the league is about to announce new franchises;
• Permanent technical, management, and medical boards have been internally set up and they will continue to exist to handle future crises with the mission of making the league trouble-proof;
• Audience has actually increased during pandemic times;
• Amidst political and social turmoil, the NBA helped in every aspect it could with the elections and also fight racial injustices. And that was handled in the middle of the covid-19 crises.
In the past few days here in the US the media has been giving huge attention to the fact of how well the NBA went through 2020 and how much stronger it is now, and therefore players and staff members feel comfortable leaving the bubble.
And as we may know by now, all games of this season will be conducted out of the bubble, with a bulletproof safety protocol in place generated by the NBA medical crises board, as Adam Silver put it: “This season, the league plans to test players, coaches and staff at least once a day, sometimes twice. If a single player tests positive, he will go into "quarantine of some sort, the protocols we are using have been tested over and over again” according to Silver.
It’s safe to say that basketball, at the end of 2020, is better and stronger, and us lovers of the game have the right to celebrate it. Cheers to that orange!
