SHAQ LAUNCHES AD AGENCY FOCUSED ON DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Shaq is undoubtedly one of the players who has proven how well he can manage his “post-career” moment. From investments in companies like Five Guys, Papa John's, Google, countless small local businesses, or even the use of his personal image in several commercials and even in iconic film roles.


In recent weeks, the player has announced a partnership with Omid Farhang to establish MAJORITY, a marketing and advertising agency built and based on a diversity-driven model.


In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Shaq was very excited and ambitious about the impact he wants to generate: “A lot of people talk about it. I’m tired of talking about it. I want to do something about it. I just want to make progress”.



The commitment to aspect of the business is the DNA of the agency that is dedicated to “accelerating the normalization of the different faces that drive the best creative companies in the world” and it proposes a model where 75% of its employees belong to minority groups.


Today, according to a report made by 40,000 employees from 165 American agencies published by the American Association of Advertising Agencies, we have the following statistics scenario:

 

- 5.8% of employees are black or African-American, with only 4% of them in vice-presidency or higher positions;

- 8.68% have Hispanic or Latin origin;

- 10,7% are Asians;

- 70,51% are White or Caucasian;

 

Diversity is one of the most urgent topics in the world today that needs to be addressed, playing an essential role in reducing the historical social disparity created in the past.


Several surveys have already shown that different groups improve business performance and therefore there is no excuse for companies not to take actions for inclusion. Initiatives like this are extremely important to entice the world to rethink and the business ecosystem to go along with it.
