Upon the unexpected arrival of the coronavirus pandemic just over a year ago, all entertainment, sports and cultural activities were put on hold as a security measure to prevent the virus from spreading, finally, later, when the vaccination program rolled out and consequently with a decrease in transmission rates, activities in various sectors have been gradually restoring along with the people’s routines.

This also happened to the events sector and more precisely with sports, such as the biggest basketball festival in Latin America that STREETOPIA promotes, which also had to be called off, but returns this year with a brand new product, the 'STREETOPIA OPEN SÃO PAULO/SP'.

Unlike the two editions of the STREETOPIA festival, which in addition to basketball also values every culture that is connected to it, the 'STREETOPIA OPEN SÃO PAULO/SP', will not have audience attendance, and will be 100% focused on basketball competitions, that is, a tournament apart from the festival in several teams enrolled themselves and will faceoff for the championship, different from the festival teams that were often invited.

With the creation of the 'STREETOPIA OPEN SÃO PAULO/SP', the possibility of competing again, meeting and gathering friends and teammates, needless to say, all of which, abiding by the safety protocols guidelines established by the health authorities, stirred up a legion of basketball fans and enthusiasts in the city and throughout the state of São Paulo. This is the case of competitors Carolina Monteiro, a veteran of sporting events held by STREETOPIA, Carol, having participated in the two previous festivals and Caio Kulaif a first time participant, talked a little about the anxiety of returning to the courts after so long and their curiosity as to what it will be like to participate in this experience:

“For me, it will be very important to participate, because the last festival I attended was the STREETOPIA in 2019. Being able to be in this tournament and in an almost 'post-pandemic' event will be very special, mainly because of the format. Of course we're going to compete and do our best, but much more than that, it's being able to be with friends, meeting the basketball crowd and being able to do what we've always done which is so dear to us...”Carol Monteiro.

“I’ve been anxious since the very first event, when I couldn't participate because I was out of São Paulo. I follow everything connected to STREETOPIA on all platforms and I have always imagined the idea of stepping onto the court, on that logo you know, and really be part of the event. This year I'll have the opportunity to do this with one of the Underdogs teams and I couldn't be happier participating in the biggest amateur basketball event in the country surrounded by my friends and teammates. I hope we can make it to the finals with no injuries and may we all have a great tournamen...” -

Remembering that the competition dynamics of the event will initially happen in the Group Stage Phase, where two teams per group qualify for the next round.

Scheduled to take place in October this year, the 'STREETOPIA OPEN SÃO PAULO/SP', will feature exclusive referees, commented live broadcast, awards for the champion teams. MVPs contest and a whole lot more.
