First and most, it’s amazing to see what the NBA G League has become. On November 5, the NBA G League will start the season under a new format, as it was officially announced today by the league. The new season will have both a 36-game regular season and an expanded Showcase Cup, a fourteen-game tournament beginning on Nov. 5 and it then concludes at the annual NBA G League Winter Showcase from Dec. 19-22. The 2021-22 regular-season will then commence on Dec. 27 with traditional playoffs and the NBA G League Finals presented by YouTube TV in April 2022. The NBA G League has also released its complete game schedule for the full season for 2021-22 play.
And to commemorate the full return of the league in its original format, the NBA G League is hosting a sort of Fan Festival (called Fan Fest) brought by the brand Wilson, which will take place between Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 26. The fans will enjoy virtual, family-friendly activities hosted by their hometown teams. Promotions and activations include virtual youth basketball clinics with balls and other equipment given by Wilson as prizes during the activation, along with virtual appearances by players, coaches and executives. As a part of the event, the league will also host an online search for the “Most G” fans through social media platforms, giving fans across the country a chance to show their love for their teams and win prizes.
Following the Showcase Cup, team records and stats will reset, and the 36-game regular season will tip off on Monday, Dec. 27, bringing each team’s total games played to 50. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams in each conference will qualify for the NBA G League Playoffs.
The already strong NBA G League seems to be gaining momentum even more as a sign of how strong leagues outside the NBA main circle are, which is nothing but good news for us basketball fans!
