Sometimes teams and sports fans may have a somewhat troubled relationship with the way referees often conduct and officiate games such as volleyball, football and basketball. Some referees are flexible whenever things get more physical but are unintentional, others end up being more severe while officiating, and consequently the game’s pace may slow down and that’s when on-court disaffections may occur.
During weekends of October, ABERTO STREETOPIA SÃO PAULO had the pleasure of welcoming an extremely qualified refereeing team who not only fulfilled their roles of on-court officials, but they did it so being extremely kind and polite.
We spoke about this with a very special person, Fátima Aparecida da Silva, a FIBA technical basketball official who worked as a referee every day at ABERTO STREETOPIA SÃO PAULO. She shared with us the importance of her role in basketball: “In basketball, there are four pillars that are important to sustain and carry out the sport: athletes - coaches - managers and refereeing teams. From this perspective, the referees, score table officials, and statisticians are an integral part of the games, working and/or watching... All segments are important.”
Moreover, Fátima also commented on her team's experience at ABERTO STREETOPIA SÃO PAULO: “STREETOPIA comes to present new horizons on planning and hosting championships. It has been wonderful to participate and enjoy the event in October, meeting people we hadn’t met in a while. For the refereeing team, it has been a unique and excellent opportunity for learning and development, with everyone's respect. As a company, we are very happy for having been invited and be able to exchange with other segments, for the realization of Streetopia, as a great work team. We are grateful to everyone.”
