'COLETIVO SIRIRICAS' ON SELF-ESTEEM AND REFUGE FOR BLACK WOMEN

The Brazilian subtlety in not assuming that Brazil is, indeed, a racist country is nothing new. The fact is that such gaze blocks the understanding of these various structural barriers, mainly because it is a mental model reproduced from generation to generation, which does not conceive blacks in positions other than servitude since the deplorable times of slavery.

Unfortunately, the daily lives of these people end up being cruelly affected in various ways: whether due to the difficulty of accessing and occupying places, or by established standards that can hardly be altered, to the affective omission of black people by white people in some cases, unless it is for sexual purposes.

Affection, self-esteem, and women's sexuality, for example, is an important aspect that deserves all the attention, and when it comes to black women, even more. Journalist Amanda Porto, in a tweet specifically targeted at her followers, asked who was interested in talking and sharing experiences regarding this subject matter.

The success was so great that it ended up giving rise to 'COLETIVO SIRIRICAS', an important platform comprised of nine collaborators, which addresses topics ranging from affective relationships, sex education, well-being, women's sexuality, especially black and less privileged women living in poor neighboorhoods, places where it is often not customary to openly address and speak about these issues.

Ana Beatriz Motta, is one of these nine women and shared with STREETOPIA the importance of creating initiatives like this: "O COLETIVO SIRIRICAS brings to women a place where she can have a voice, where she sees what she thinks and feels is not madness, a place of information where we try to explain and learn about our experiences and that of many women, notably black women. I think it all comes down to trust, empowerment, welcoming a place where women can have confidence..."
