One of the main urban dance competitions in the world lands in Rio de Janeiro this upcoming October 22, turning the carioca capital into a huge dance floor and STREETOPIA will certainly be there.
Hip Hop, House, Locking, Popping, Dance hall, and sure enough the original dance style from Rio de Janeiro, Passinho, will be part of it.
Participants will compete in a 1X1 format, not knowing ahead which song will play – and the dancer's improvisational ability will be considered to stand out in the competition.
The crowd will be the jury and chooses who advances in the competition to take the title home.
Out of the 16 participants, one will emerge as the winner and will be able to showcase their talent in South Africa, where they will compete for the world title in the grand finals.
Having more than 130 qualifying phases spread across 33 countries, the first edition on Brazilian soil will be curated by dancer Raquel Cabaneco (@raquelcabaneco), and dancer and producer Pedro Brum (@pedrinbrum).
In charge as Mc's, are Aline Constantino (@alineafrobreak), B-Girl and producer of the collective Turmalinas Negras and ZULU, dancer, and member of the ballet of singer Djonga.
